With the help of a forum member and his Lexia kit we noticed that the little black tube that comes of the EGR valve was split. Replaced this and now all OK.
I have a 58 plate C4 Picasso 1.6 petrol VTR+. About a year ago the same thing happened, anti-pollution system fault, handbrake faulty and the handbrake wouldn't work automatically; threw up a few others as well I think, so I took it to a mechanic who couldn't find the problem and said don't worry.
Engine bay fuse box is a common problem at the minute, mainly affecting the new C5, but also C4 Picassos. I'm surprised that they hadn't heard of the fault code P0001 and linked it straight away to a faulty fusebox. The fault is a poor or faulty contact inside the fusebox on fuse F1 which breaks down overtime.
